TOGETHER Off-Broadway - MERMAN & MARTIN
Well, Hello Dolly! Act II Playhouse announces its latest production, "Together Off-Broadway: Merman and Martin." The tribute to Broadway royalty Ethel Merman and Mary Martin runs July 5 through August 7. The production is an Act II Playhouse Premiere.
The musical showcase shares the lives and careers of the show biz luminaries and legends who were off-stage friends, theatre royalty, and iconic personalities. Peek behind the Broadway curtains at their personal lives and the challenges of friendship, especially as women in their time, while celebrating an acclaimed song list, including "I Got Rhythm," "Everything's Coming Up Roses," "Cockeyed Optimist," and "Hello, Dolly."
More About the Show as stated by co-writer Meredith Beck who was recently interviewed on WDVR FM live with Mandee and Andy on Let’s Talk’s Creative Conversations:
“Together Off-Broadway, is a piece I’ve been developing, with my friend/colleague/partner- in- crime Sarah Gafgen. TOB focuses on the personal lives, careers and friendship of Ethel Merman and Mary Martin. These careers include headlining: Anything Goes, South Pacific, Annie Get Your Gun, Gypsy, The Sound of Music… and so much more! The overarching concept was inspired by a “lost concert” that Merman and Martin performed May 15th,1977 in New York City. This concert, Together On Broadway, was a fundraiser for the Museum of New York. Ethel and Mary spent the evening storytelling and revisiting their most iconic songs- including a particularly fabulous 12-minute long duet that they’d performed the first time they ever worked together, in 1953. *Fun Fact- when they performed Hello Dolly, their backup “waiters” included Joel Grey and George Hearn. *Additional Fun Fact- Lauren Bacall was on the waitlist to even get in the door.
Sarah and I have developed multiple versions of our show so that it is adaptable to any stage and contract-type. We are performing a fully scripted production at Act II, but very often perform a traveling “concert-version” with unscripted banter.”
Performances are Wednesdays through Sundays and the runtime is 75/80 minutes, no intermission. GET Tickets: HERE
